Man causes crash, gets DUI with kid in car

Officers responded to a report of a multi-vehicle collision witnessed by a fire department engine crew on Travis Boulevard near Union Avenue at around 2:45 p.m., according to Fairfield police. Four vehicles were involved in a collision that hospitalized several people with injuries, none of which were expected to be life threatening.

Witnesses told police that the driver of a red Ford Ranger pickup had lost control of the truck while speeding west on Travis Boulevard and collided with three other vehicles.

Officers reported that a small child was in the truck at the time of the collision. The child had been fastened in a child safety seat and was not injured.

The truck driver displayed signs of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to police, who took him to a hospital to be treated for injuries and then arrested him for felony driving under the influence and child endangerment.
