Mayor Gavin Newsom announced plans Tuesday to install solar panels on three housing authority properties, including one in Hayes Valley.

The mayor says the panels will provide clean, renewable energy for city residents and reduces their electricity bills.

"What we're doing today not only advances the environmental framework, but will also substantially reduce the costs of managing and operating and living at this public," says Mayor Newsom.

Newsom also touted the cities Go-Solar-SF energy rebate program, which he says helps residents and businesses install solar power with no interest.

By the way, the mayor says a new report about to be released shows San Francisco has more solar rooftops per capita, than any other city in the country.
