The sighting was reported around 10:20 a.m. along the Alambique Trail near Woodside, San Mateo County sheriff's officials said.

Anyone who encounters a mountain lion should not run from the animal, and should not crouch or bend down, but rather try to appear larger, and make noise.

Mountain lions are timid and typically do not seek out humans. However, if a mountain lion attacks, wildlife officials advise fighting back.
