Officers from the Oakland Police Department served warrants in five East Bay cities on Thursday with help from several other agencies. Police say the men arrested were responsible for a string of homicides.

In addition, officers seized 12 firearms, including assault rifles, as well as narcotics. Police say they have been tracking the group since 2001.

"We went with the approach of going after the leaders, instead of going after the hired guns or middle men. We felt we have a better effect at dismantle the gang if that's what we did," said Sgt. Tony Jones from the Oakland Police Department.

Police released these pictures of men they arrested Thursday. Oakland says the investigation is still underway.
