Officers responded to a report of a disturbance and possible shot fired in the 300 block of Ashburton Drive just after midnight Friday and found several people in the front yard of a residence and knives on the ground, police said.

Some of the suspects made verbal threats on the officers and one suspect, Jessie Cooks, allegedly ignored officers' orders and attempted to leave, according to police.

Cooks started to comply with orders, but then allegedly grabbed one of the officers, picked him up and threw him to the ground, police said. The officer hit his head on the cement, sustaining scrapes, lacerations and swelling.

Officers then subdued and arrested Cooks, who was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on charges of battery against a police officer and threats against a police officer.
