Santa Cruz man arrested for child porn

Steve Hibbett, of Santa Cruz, was arrested at about 2:20 p.m. following a tip by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and a representative from the regional Internet Crimes Against Children, a task force that helps local law enforcement agencies investigate offenders on the Internet.

According to police, detectives used an online persona to find Hibbett. They located him at a local library and took him to the Police Department for questioning. During the course of the interview, detectives discovered that Hibbett had possessed, exhibited and distributed pornography involving children under 14 years of age, police said.

Police are investigating whether Hibbett used the computers at the local library to engage in the exchange and accessing of child pornography.

Hibbett was booked into the Santa Cruz County jail for possession and distribution of obscene matter involving children under the age of 14. His bail was set at $300,000.
