The retail giant has increased its laptop selection by 40 percent and will sell loaded laptops for less than the price of a basic netbook.

Starting Sunday, Wal-Mart will sell an exclusive Compaq Presario notebook, running Windows Vista, with 3 gigabytes of memory, for $298.

The retailers will also offer a Vista laptop with an 8-hour battery for $548.

Industry experts say Wal-Mart's strategy could trigger a price war.
