Federal minimum wage goes up 70 cents

The federal minimum wage has increased by 70 cents for the country's lowest paid workers. The new minimum wage is $7.25.

It's a pay raise for workers in 30 states. It does not affect California workers because the minimum wage is $8. But, one of President Obama's campaign promises was to raise the federal minimum wage to $9.50 an hour by 2011.
