Grass fire burns 5 acres in Moraga

Firefighters have contained a one-alarm grass fire in Moraga that burned about five acres today, a fire dispatcher said.It was an intense afternoon for some Moraga residents after a grass fire broke out near their homes.

The fire burned behind Rheem Valley Shopping Center and just below homes on Ascot Drive; two areas where a fire could have done a lot of damage.

Fire fighters responded to the fire aggressively. CALFire and Contra Costa fire services from Moraga and Orinda used a helicopter and a tanker plane to help battle the fire from the air.

The fire was contained within an hour and burned about five acres.

There were no injuries and no property was damaged.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
