The fire department received word at about 2:20 p.m. that a hiker had been hurt on the South Creek Trail, about half a mile from the park's picnic area, Battalion Chief Mike Giannini.

Giannini said a branch 6 to 8 inches in diameter broke off an oak tree unexpectedly and fell on the hiker.

The hiker suffered severe injuries and was transported by ground ambulance to Lagunitas School, then airlifted to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
