SF, UN to build global warming think tank

San Francisco and the United Nations are teaming up to build a global warming center at the old Hunters Point shipyard.

The UN sponsored think tank will study solutions to global warming and other environmental crises.

The center, which is expected to cost $20 million, is due to open in 2012. But first, the land has to be cleaned.

The Navy is cleaning up the toxic shipyard, which is listed as a superfund site. After the cleanup the land will be turned over to the city.
