Dead body found near shopping center

The body of a 41-year-old man was found in some bushes near a San Mateo shopping center Sunday morning and authorities are investigating the death as a homicide, a police captain said.

A citizen called 911 around 8 a.m. to report a man's body in the bushes in the unit block of Bovet Road near the Borel Square Shopping Center, San Mateo police Capt. Kevin Raffaelli said.

Officers responded and pronounced the man, a Redwood City resident, dead at the scene. Raffaelli could not reveal the cause of death but said the death has been ruled a homicide.

"All indications are that it is a homicide," he said.

Authorities believe the man was killed between midnight and 1 a.m. Sunday, according to Raffaelli. No one is in custody for the murder.
