The Tuolumne County Humane Society is giving Sophie, a two-year-old Australian Shepherd/Queensland Heeler mix, to the Army National Guard.

Sophie will be joining a brigade that's already there training Iraqi police.

"Kind of boosts your morale. you know you could be there have a long day but you know, knowing that she came from the states, a lot of people have dogs, and you know, she could be there, kind of, dog away from home," said Sgt. Arlyce Baty from the Army National Guard.

The guard says Sophie will be heading to Iraq in about a month.
