The intensive three-day cleanup effort is the first of four "Super Eco-Blitzes" scheduled in the city through September, Department of Public Works spokeswoman Christine Falvey said.
"The purpose is to beautify and clean up some of the busiest merchant corridors," Falvey said.
Businesses prosper with cleaner streets, she said, and the clean-up effort includes educating businesses about keeping streets clean.
"We want to support businesses' efforts to attract customers," Falvey said. "At the end of the day, we want those businesses to thrive."
Tuesday's blitz, which begins at 1 p.m., will clean Mission Street from 14th Street to 18th Street and from 22nd Street to 25th Street.
The program is funded by the Department of Public Works and includes participation by the Department of Parking and Traffic, the Department of the Environment, and Recology, a waste management services company formerly known as Norcal Waste Systems.
Additional corridors to be cleaned are Stockton Street from Sacramento to Columbus streets on Aug. 25, 26 and 27; Mission Street from Amazon Avenue to Allison Street, and Geneva Avenue from Lisbon Street to Alemany Boulevard on Sept. 1, 2 and 3; and Clement Street from Arguello to 10th Avenue on Sept. 15, 16 and 17.
