At around 3:30 a.m., Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety officers responded to a Motel 6 in the 600 block of North Mathilda Avenue where a woman had been heard screaming for help, city of Sunnyvale spokesman John Pilger said.

A woman had reportedly been assaulted by a male suspect believed to still be in the area. The victim was taken to a hospital.

Officers established a perimeter and called in K-9 teams who were continuing search operations in the area as of 6:30 a.m.

A media contact base has been established at a Valero gas station on the southeast corner of the intersection of Mathilda and Maude avenues, Pilger said.
