Businesses must soon follow pollution rules

The California Air Resources Board is now considering how much to charge companies that emit greenhouses gases.

Reports say businesses might also be charged, if they violate the new regulations and absorb the cost of complying with them.

In 2006, state lawmakers passed legislation requiring California to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by 2020.

The fees collected will help pay for the cost of hiring the officials who will implement those standards.
