FTC puts end to robocalls

Starting September 1, the Federal Trade Commission is banning robocalls unless the telemarketer has written permission from a customer.

Violators face penalties of up to $16,000 per call.

Exceptions to the new rule include calls that deliver such information as flight cancellations and those from debt collectors, charities or political campaigns.
