Laughing gas is greatest ozone layer threat

That's the finding of scientists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. They say nitrous oxide known as laughing gas is the biggest ozone depleting gas in the air.

It's a by-product of agricultural fertilizer and a number of industrial processes. The NOAA scientists are concerned because the gas is not covered by any global treaties to reduce emissions.

The study is published in science magazine.
