CA Atty General warns of fire scams

State Attorney General Jerry Brown is warning consumers to beware of phony charities that claim to be helping wildfire victims.

With fires raging in California, scammers may prey on people wanting to help out.

If you get solicited for a donation, make sure you are giving to a real charity, not a scammer.

Here are some tips:

  • Don't respond to email solicitations. They may steer you to a phony charity.

  • Don't give cash.

  • Stick with established charities. Make sure they are registered with the state attorney general.
