Fremont police received a report that a male victim had appeared at Washington Township Hospital suffering from a gunshot wound at about 9:15 p.m., Fremont police Sgt. Chris Mazzone said.

Around that time, Fremont police also heard a broadcast from San Jose police stating that a homicide had occurred around 8:50 p.m. at the garage of the San Jose Convention Center in the 100 block of West San Carlos Street.

San Jose police have said the homicide may be connected to a car show at the convention center that night.

The shooting victim in Fremont was uncooperative with police, but officers did learn that he may have been in the area of the homicide earlier that night.

"We had information to indicate that maybe this guy had been in San Jose where the homicide occurred," Mazzone said.

San Jose police spokesman Jermaine Thomas said San Jose officers have contacted that person and are investigating whether he is linked to the homicide.

"It's unknown if that's going to be related," Thomas said this morning. "There's always that possibility."

He said no one has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting, which was the city's 20th homicide this year.

The identity of the homicide victim has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
