The suspect was taken to the hospital and is suspected to survive.

A sweep of some kind may have been taking place. Between two to four deputies were inside the house when one deputy fired at one of the residents. No deputies were shot or injured.

Four men were taken out of the house. They were not in handcuffs, but they are likely witnesses.

The shooting took place around 4 p.m. in the Alum Rock neighborhood, near Independence High School, off of I-680 by McKee Road. There were between two and four people in the house at the time of the shooting, but there are no other reports of injuries.

The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department was involved in the case, but the San Jose Police Department has now taken. A spokesman for San Jose Police said they are not sure why a sheriff's deputy was at the house.

A large portion of the residential neighborhood has been blocked off.
