Pigeon races South African DSL service

South African workers frustrated by slow internet speeds decided to hold a contest to see if a carrier pigeon could move data faster than their broadband service.

Workers strapped a four gigabyte memory stick to a pigeon named Winston and sent him off to his destination 60 miles away.

At the same time workers sent the same data with their DSL service.

It took Winston a little more than an hour to arrive. And then it took another hour to upload the data from the memory stick.

At the same time, the DSL connection had sent just four percent of the data.
