Officers responded to a small apartment complex at 3008 Lakeshore Ave. at about 9:30 a.m. Sunday after receiving reports of a gunshot fired there, Lt. Ersie Joyner said.

Police arrived and contacted Deonte McClendon, a 33-year-old Oakland man who lives alone in a one-bedroom apartment at the complex, Joyner said.

Inside the apartment, there was "ammunition everywhere" as well as targets scattered about, Joyner said.

Joyner said McClendon told officers a gun had accidentally discharged while he was cleaning it. Joyner said no cleaning fluids were found nearby.

No one was injured in the shooting and McClendon was taken into custody peacefully, Joyner said. Police seized 11 firearms from McClendon's apartment, including several illegal assault weapons. Officers also recovered thousands of rounds of ammunition, several small marijuana plants and books on how to convert firearms into automatic weapons, Joyner said.

Joyner said the guns will be analyzed to see if they have been used in any crimes in the city.
