New research from the American Heart Association shows high sugar intake can raise blood pressure and increase cholesterol just like salt.

Study participants who took a high-fructose pill showed significant increases in blood pressure after only two weeks.

The sweets the study is concerned with are table sugar and high-fructose corn syrup. The naturally occurring fructose found in fruit contains vitamins and fiber that usually blocks the negative effects.
