It broke out just after 7:30p.m. in a liquor store on Blossom Way at Meekland Avenue.

Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings, but the liquor store appears to be a total loss.

Alameda County Deputy Battalion Chief Dave Rocha says it was a very difficult blaze to battle. "It doesn't surprise me that it's so hard to put out. Typically businesses like this, liquor stores or corner markets have items inside the building which is a heavy fire load."

The fire started in the store's attic and spread quickly when a wall collapsed.

At this point it's a mop up effort.
