Newsom backs away from parking fees, fines

The parking revolt in Oakland is now having an effect on San Francisco's plan to expand fines and fees.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Mayor Gavin Newsom is backing away from a plan to install more meters in San Francisco and increase the hours when the meters are enforced.

Several businesses in Oakland have said extended parking enforcement hours and higher fines have forced customers to stay away.
