Residents in Novato and San Rafael have reported receiving calls from the man in the past few weeks, according to the sheriff's office.

The man allegedly claimed to be a relative who was in jail in Canada. He would then ask the person on the phone to wire money for bail, the sheriff's office reported.

Anyone who is the victim of fraud should call authorities, and anyone with information about this case is asked to call sheriff's detectives at (415) 499-7265 or (800) 222-TIPS to remain anonymous.
