Marcial Anguiano Pena, 43, initially yielded to officers who tried to pull over his vehicle for a code violation at about 12:20 a.m. in the 600 block of Fourth Street, Sgt. Lance Badger said.

But Pena then accelerated away from officers, leading them on a 5- to 10-minute pursuit through downtown Santa Rosa before losing control of his vehicle and striking a light pole at South E Street and Maple Avenue, Badger said.

Pena then ran up an embankment leading to state Highway 12, Badger said. Police released a dog to apprehend Pena, and Pena struck the dog while being taken into custody, Badger said.

He was booked into the Sonoma County jail for evading a police officer, assaulting a police dog and resisting arrest, Badger said.
