For only the fourth time in its history, the opera will open its extensive and historic costume warehouse to the public.

The costumes will range from medieval, 18th-century, to more modern and vintage clothing. Some of the items will also come from famous opera productions -- including Puccini's Madam Butterfly.

The sale runs through Saturday from 11 to 4 at the San Francisco Opera Scene Shop on Indiana Street.
