Smith ready for Sunday's start

You have to give Smith a lot of credit here. He never gave up despite being benched, he never pouted and he didn't start tweeting negative comments about his coach like Larry Johnson with the Chiefs.

Smith came off the bench and threw three touchdowns against the Texans last week and he's ready to wing it.

"I don't think I ever lost confidence. It just, it had been two years almost since I actually did it in a live game. Yeah I played in a couple preseason games, but that's always different," said Smith.

"When I named Shaun the quarterback I told Alex at that time, I don't want you to lock yourself in a barn. It's not like Shaun's the guy, get out," said head coach Mike Singletary.

"I never got the barn quote, but yeah, I think, this is the NFL. If you're a back-up quarterback and you think you're not going to play you're kind of in a dreamland."
