The East Bay Express reports that the IRS has ordered the mayor to pay $239,000.

The IRS has placed a lien on the mayor and wife, Cynthia Dellums,' personal property, while the back taxes are paid.

The newspaper says that the couple's financial problems started in 2005 -- when Dellums worked as a Washington lobbyist, a year before he became mayor.

In a statement to ABC7 News, the mayor's office said "There was a disagreement about the amount of payment owed to the IRS. That will be settled in short order."
