Fremont launches community alert system

CodeRED will allow authorities to send out alerts or notifications. They can be about emergencies like hazardous materials spills, barricaded criminal suspects, floods or fires.

They can also be for non-emergencies like road closures, maintenance work, or missing people.

For now, the city can only call the 911 database, made up of landline numbers. But you can go to the city's Web site to sign up your cell phone, email and more.

A test call will go out next week, on November 17th.
