Two cars set on fire in Richmond overnight

RICHMOND, CA

The first fire happened on 12th and Roosevelt around midnight. The second fire happened on Center Street near South 42nd around 1:45 a.m..

Arson investigators said, at this point, these two fires don't appear to be related to at least 17 others in the same area over the last three weeks. But they say there could be a copycat arsonist.

On Tuesday, officials held a press conference to urge the public to be more vigilant about locking their car doors and removing any valuables from their vehicles.

Officials say several of the recent fires were started inside unlocked cars.
