Report: Kids are exposed to violence on films

LOS ANGELES

Films like "Indiana Jones: the Crystal Skull" are rated PG-13. But the FTC says this film and others with violent content were advertised on children's television channels like nickelodeon and the cartoon network, which are geared for kids under 12.

The FTC also says the industry appealed to little kids with toys and food products tied to violent movies like "Dark Knight" "Star Trek" and "Transformers." The FTC called the trend "troubling."

The Motion Picture Association of America told 7 On Your Side: "we take seriously our responsibility to parents and employ rigorous standards in reviewing content so that all advertising is suitable for the audience it is intended for."
