There about 50 kids from an afterschool program were supposed to go home at 2:30 p.m., but they were locked inside, for their own protection, as a police searched for a couple of suspects who ditched their car nearby.
The high-speed chase ended nearby, but there is no word yet on how it started.
An unknown number of people jumped out of the car after it finally stopped on Highway 580 near Edwards Avenue.
Police set up a perimeter and were still searching for them at 5 p.m., but also decided at that time it was safe for the kids to leave with their parents who came to pick them up.
