Crews are working to restore electricity to thousands of customers in the Sierra Nevada foothills, where a snowstorm knocked down power lines.

The storm Monday dropped several inches of snow in El Dorado and Placer counties snapping tree limbs that struck power lines.

Pacific Gas and Electric spokesman Brian Swanson says extra crews have been brought to the area.

About 20,000 customers in El Dorado County and 50 customers in Placer County were without power Tuesday.

Swanson expects full power to be restored by the end of the day.
