Man sent to hospital after three-alarm fire in SF

SAN FRANCISCO

The fire was reported at 8:16 p.m. at a three-story building on Jefferson Street, fire Lt. Ken Smith said.

The fire was burning on the second floor of the building at 1839 Jefferson St., and on the third floor at 1841 Jefferson St., Smith said. It then spread to the second and third floors of the adjacent building.

The fire was controlled at 9:14 p.m.

A man in his late 20s or early 30s was taken to a local hospital for smoke inhalation and what appeared to be facial burns caused by the blaze, according to Smith. The man's condition was not available as of 11:15 p.m.

A firefighter was also hospitalized after becoming ill at the scene of the fire.

Smith said the firefighter's hospitalization "appears to be illness-related, not fire-related."

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and the amount of damage it caused has not yet been determined, he said.
