Salvador Rodriguez was initially named a suspect in the Oct. 24 rape of a girl outside her homecoming dance. But he was later released for lack of evidence and has now been asked to testify against the six defendants in custody.
Family members said 21-year-old Rodriguez has been labeled a snitch and received threats. A cousin filed a missing person's report after Rodriguez mysteriously disappeared earlier this month. On Wednesday, Rodriguez called ABC7 News to say he was okay, but that he is in hiding at a friends house, fearing his own safety.
Earlier Wednesday, his younger sister told ABC7 News that Rodriguez called his mother after seeing news reports about his disappearance.
