The California Highway Patrol has netted more DUI arrests in the Bay Area and statewide thus far during the holiday enforcement period than last year, CHP officials said this morning.

CHP officers in the Bay Area have arrested 39 drivers suspected of driving under the influence, up from last year's total of 24 arrests from 6 p.m. Thursday through 6 a.m. today, according to the CHP.

Statewide the CHP has arrested 246 drivers for allegedly driving under the influence, and last year the agency had arrested 167 drivers during the same enforcement period, the CHP reported.

No DUI-related traffic deaths have occurred in the Bay Area in the holiday enforcement period, and there were no fatal crashes involving alcohol during the same time last year.

The holiday enforcement efforts will continue through midnight Sunday.
