Four post-midnight southbound trains will be added to its regular holiday schedule New Year's Day morning as well, Caltrain spokeswoman Tasha Bartholomew said.
Those trains will depart the San Francisco station at 12:45 a.m., 1:15 a.m., 1:45 a.m. and 2:15 a.m., making all local weekday stops to the San Jose Diridon station, she said.
In addition, Caltrain will operate on a Sunday schedule on New Year's Day, meaning 28 trains will run between San Francisco and San Jose that day.
Open alcohol containers are not allowed on trains after 9 p.m. following special events, Bartholomew said.

Two extra southbound trips will be added to the Mountain View to Winchester line with the final southbound trip leaving the Santa Clara station at 1:50 a.m.
VTA will also extend service on its Express Bus Line 180, which will operate between Great Mall and Fremont BART after Express 181 stops running. The last northbound bus will leave San Jose's Diridon station at 1:55 a.m. and the last southbound bus will leave the Fremont BART station at 3:03 a.m.

Muni will be free from 8 p.m. New Year's Eve until 6 a.m. on New Year's Day.
Muni Metro underground service will run between the Embarcadero and West Portal stations until around 4 a.m. and Muni's Owl service will run extra buses.
BART will run trains later than usual Thursday night and Friday morning for New Year's Eve, but trains bound for the East Bay will not stop at all stations in downtown San Francisco in an effort to ease overcrowding at the Embarcadero Station.
In past years, large crowds attending the downtown fireworks show have caused overcrowding at the Embarcadero BART station.
As a result, trains on the Pittsburg/Bay Point and Richmond lines will not stop at the Embarcadero station beginning at 8 p.m. on New Year's Eve. People wishing to go to the fireworks show on those lines will have to get off at the Montgomery station, according to BART officials.
Trains on the Dublin/Pleasanton and Fremont lines will stop at the Embarcadero station, but not at the Montgomery station.
Trains headed to Millbrae, SFO or Daly City will make all stops in San Francisco on New Year's Eve and into New Year's Day, according to BART officials.
Additional "event" trains will also be standing by to take riders during the busiest time of the night after the fireworks end shortly after midnight.
BART service will last until 3 a.m. Friday to help riders get home from festivities around the Bay Area. It will begin again at 8 a.m. Friday and will operate on a holiday/Sunday schedule.
BART officials recommend that riders buy a round-trip ticket before starting a trip to avoid lines at ticket machines on the way home.
