Human remains likely belong to missing hiker

The San Mateo County coroner says "the likelihood is great" that human remains found in unincorporated San Mateo are the remains of a hiker who disappeared in the hills above San Carlos in July 2009.

The remains were found over the weekend in the El Corte de Madera Creek Open Space Preserve, which is where 55-year-old Douglas May's car was found last July. The only thing found was a partial skeleton.

The San Mateo County coroner estimates the remains had been deceased 60 to 90 days and says it will take two to three weeks to make the match.
