15 homes evacuated for gas main break

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA

A home was being remodeled and the contractor's crew cut into the gas line thinking it was a sewer line. The gas escaped into the air.

The incident occurred around 3 p.m. and 15 homes had to be evacuated.

Mountain View police roped off part of Begen Avenue while waiting for PG&E crews to arrive and cap the leak. Crews capped the leak around 5:45 p.m. and most neighbors were allowed to return to their homes. Those that could not return immediately were the occupants of the remodeled home with the gas leak and the neighbors on either side of that house.

There were no injuries reported.
