In the Sierra, Kirkwood Mountain Resort and thousands of people were in the dark Friday night, after a utilities building caught fire.

Everyone got off their lifts safely before the resort closed early.

Fire crews believe engine failure sparked the fire inside of a mountain utilities building.

It may be hours before power is restored and back-up generators were being brought in.

Kirkwood plans to open again by 9 a.m. Saturday.

If you were planning a ski trip there, you're advised to call first.
