Signatures are being gathered for a ballot measure that would increase California's motor vehicle fees by $18 bucks a year.
In return, motorists with up-to-date car registrations would be allowed day use entry to state parks. Lancaster Assemblyman Steve Knight, R, is not a fan of the proposal.
"The 50 or 60 million cars that we have here in the state that are going to be registered, are all going to be paying for this. How many of those people are going to be actually using state parks?" says Knight.
Even if this passes, the parks would still be charging fees. The initiative allows additional fees for camping, museums and special events.
