A woman died and her mother was injured in a fire at a home in San Carlos early this morning, Belmont-San Carlos fire Chief Doug Fry said.

The one-alarm fire was reported at 4:36 a.m. at a home in the 100 block of Devonshire Boulevard, according to Fry.

Firefighters arrived and found an elderly woman hanging out a window of the home and screaming for help, saying her daughter was still inside, Fry said.

Crews found the woman unconscious in a bathroom inside the home. She was pronounced dead at the home, Fry said.

The elderly woman was taken to Stanford Hospital where she was in intensive care this morning, he said.

Firefighters controlled the blaze by 5 a.m.

Investigators will be working today to determine the cause of the fire, he said.

The blaze caused between $100,000 and $125,000 in damage to the home, Fry said.
