Dispute over special Google logo in Australia

Tuesday was Australia Day, a national holiday in that country, and Google marked the day with a distinctly Australian Google logo on its google.com.au search page.

The logo features Australian wildlife. Google held a student art contest, and an 11-year-old girl named Jessie Du beat out thousands of entrants. However, her logo design featured the Aboriginal flag. The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting that a dispute over copyright apparently caused Google to modify the design.

The Aboriginal flag is copyrighted, and there was a disagreement over payment for its usage.

You can see Jessie Du's original artwork and the version that Google ran on the Sydney Morning Herald website.

(It is already Wednesday in Australia and the logo has been removed.)
