Bill would protect concussed high school athletes

SACRAMENTO, CA

Assemblyman Jerry Hill of San Mateo says research shows that 2-out-5 high school athletes who get a concussion return to their sport too soon.

The issue gained a lot of attention when 16-year-old Matthew Blea, a San Jose High School football player, went into a coma after suffering a head injury during a game on Thanksgiving Day 2009.

Blea is now home and going through rehabilitation therapy. Doctors say he had previously suffered a minor concussion.
