2-year-old-girl injured in Richmond shooting

RICHMOND, CA

The girl was riding with her father in a Jeep Cherokee when a suspect fired shots at the vehicle from the sidewalk in the 500 block of Seventh Street just after 6 p.m., police Sgt. Bisa French said.

The girl sustained a gunshot wound to her shoulder and was taken by an ambulance to a local hospital, French said. She is expected to survive. Her father was not injured in the shooting.

French said a motive for the shooting is under investigation.

"It appears that (the suspect) did, for some unknown reason, target this vehicle," she said.

The suspect is described as a black male in his late teens or early 20s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and 150 pounds. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants.

Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to call Richmond police at (510) 233-1214. A reward of $10,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect in the case.
