Six 16-inch "tabletop" hearts have been placed in a window display at Macy's Union Square to publicize 2010 Hearts in San Francisco, an art project that places heart sculptures around the city annually to raise money for the hospital and promote artistic expression.
The hearts will be on display until a Feb. 11 luncheon when they will be sold for $25,000 apiece to benefit the foundation, event spokeswoman Rachel Christie said.
Following the luncheon, eight larger heart-shaped sculptures will be installed at various locations around the city and will remain on display until Labor Day, Christie said.
Foundation board members Pam and Larry Baer were expected to attend this morning's unveiling, as well as Macy's store manager Catherine Bartels and officials from San Francisco General Hospital.
The Hearts in San Francisco artwork debuted in Union Square in 2004 and, combined with Hearts and Heroes benefits over the past four years, has raised nearly $5 million for the foundation.
