Bill aims to curb free parking in California

The California Senate passed a bill Tuesday that what would make it easier for communities that ban free parking to receive credits for state grant money.

But State Sen. Tom Harman, R-Orange County, who voted against the bill, says commuters in the Bay Area, for example, have options like BART and Muni which are unavailable in other communities.

"Compare that to Bakersfield or Fresno or some of the towns in my district, Orange County, that have minimal types of available mass transit," said Harman.

The bill now goes to the Assembly which probably will not begin considering it until late spring.
